Jewellery Care Guide

Our jewellery is designed to be lived in.

Like all fine and beautiful things, your jewellery should be treated with care. We encourage you to wear your jewellery often and care for it with the same passion. Be mindful that wearing your pieces while swimming, cleaning, and exercising can create more risk for damage or wear of your pieces.

You are always welcome to visit our Fitzroy storefront for complimentary cleaning, polishing, plating, repairs, and jewellery check-ups.

Complimentary Professional Cleaning

If you are a Brisbane local or visiting the area, you can always visit our Fitzroy storefront for complimentary cleaning on any of your Norvoch jewellery.

Our team will be able to assess your piece for wear and tear, check the settings of your gemstones, and polish up your golden wonders.

What happens in a professional clean?

Your jewellery will be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner, with a strong cleaning solution that will remove the dirt and grime build up that can get trapped in the fine details of your piece.

Our jewellers may also polish your pieces if it's needed, to remove light scratches and marks. Note that deep scratches and indentations may not be able to be removed by the polishing process. If your piece is white gold, it may also need rhodium plating, which will take a little longer, and is always complimentary.

How long does it take?

Depending on how many pieces you bring in for a clean, and how thorough you would like them cleaned, a simple clean in the ultrasonic cleaner can take a few hours at most. However a full polish and assessment may take a day or two.

Keep in mind these times may vary depending on our workshop’s capacity at the time.

How Often Should I Clean My Jewellery?

Your jewellery should be professionally cleaned, assessed, and polished annually. If you are local to our Fitzroy storefront, please visit us for complimentary cleaning.

Can I Swim & Shower with my Jewellery?

Our jewellery is designed to be lived in, so you can swim and shower in your pieces. Washing your hands under warm water with a gentle soap, or going for a swim in the ocean, are both perfectly safe for your jewellery. However, highly chlorinated water, pools and spas, will oxidise gold over time.

Always take extra care when wearing your jewellery in water, and make sure the clasps, settings, and hinges of your jewellery are secured tightly, also be mindful when swimming with rings as your fingers may shrink in cold water.

Which Gems Shouldn’t I Swim With?

Due to the nature of some gemstones it’s best not to submerge them while swimming, especially in chlorinated pools.

We don’t recommend swimming with opal, pearl, emerald, amethyst, morganite, or beryl jewellery.

How Should I Store my Jewellery?

Jewellery should be stored somewhere cool and dry. The jewellery boxes we send your jewellery home in are perfect for keeping your jewellery safe, clean, and protected. Jewellery that is left without wear for a long period of time can oxidise, especially if left in a jewellery box for months at a time. Oxidisation may appear as a bronze tone on your solid gold jewellery, however this is not rust and is easily removed with a quick polish.

Downsizing

Size does matter! At least, when it comes to piercings it does. It’s the process of shortening jewelry from initial piercing length to a better fit.
